Cherie A. Fathy, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Fathy is a fellowship-trained cataract, cornea, and LASIK surgeon. Dr. Fathy performs the full spectrum of procedures including advanced lens laser cataract surgery, refractive surgery (LASIK & PRK), and partial thickness corneal transplants (DSEK & DMEK).

Dr. Fathy graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University as an Ingram Scholar. She earned her medical degree at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine as a Joe C. Davis scholar and as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, the highest honor society in medical school.

She received the J. Donald M. Gass Award for excellence in research in the field of ophthalmology. She also completed a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology while at Vanderbilt. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the top-ranked Wills Eye Hospital, where she served as an editor for the best-selling reference book, The Wills Eye Manual, which is used by doctors around the world when treating eye disease. She further subspecialized in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery as a fellow at the Wilmer Eye Institute at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Fathy is committed to constantly improving how we care for patients. She has served as an Advocacy Ambassador in DC, where she has advocated for patients’ access to care and affordable medications. She serves on the editorial board for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Young Ophthalmologists Info section. She has made significant contributions to the scientific literature as a first-author of several peer-reviewed publications and has presented her work at several national and international meetings. Dr. Fathy has been recognized by the American Medical Association with the Excellence in Medicine Award for her leadership and dedication to her patients and by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons for her exemplary research and leadership in the field of ophthalmology.
